Christmas is not always a happy time, and expecting that we should be happy makes it worse. Tahlia talks about the general attitude that helps you to be happy no matter what and then talks specifically about missing someone who has died during the year, not having enough money for food or presents, having difficulties with your family and being alone.

Erric Soloman from the Radically Happy organisation shares his Happiness Hint, Hurdle, Hero and Quote, after which Tahlia talks about the role gratitude has to play in our happiness. It may go deeper than you think.

Gratitude is often mentioned as being important for ones happiness, but it can be more than taking time each day to list the things you're grateful for. You can even be grateful for what appears as negative in your life. An attitude of gratitude has the power to completely transform every moment of your day.

Do you control your thoughts or do they control you? This week's Happiness Hint looks at how we relate to our thoughts, and how our relationship to them affects our ability to be happy. Then Tahlia talks to Rae Hatherton, author of the best-selling book, Alive: An Energy Plan for Life. She share her own Happiness Hint, Hurdle, Hero and quote.

Thoughts, if we don't have a good relationship with them, can drive us crazy. They can go endlessly round and round, stirring up negative emotions like anger, predjudice, jealousy, and so on. Though these are fleeting states of mind, we tend to hold onto them and identify with them, thus allowing them to take hold of us and cause trouble for ourselves and others. In order to be happy all the time, you need to know that you are not your thoughts.

Being happy doesn't mean that you never experience anything bad. It means that you can have negative experiences and feelings, but you don't let them knock you around. In today's Happiness Hint - Don't Stir the Shit - Tahlia uses the analogy of cow manure to show you how. After that Tahlia interviews Rose, a young filmmaker and graphic artist from Sydney, who shares how she works on staying happy while unemployed.
